Opening hours

The kayaking trips on the Lesse are open daily from 06/04/2019 till 27/10/2019, except on the first Saturday of June (01/06/2019).

Always check our news feed and Facebook to stay informed of eventual restrictions due to floods or drought :

Arrival by car

Meet up at our office in Anseremme (kayak arrival) to buy your tickets and take the shuttle towards the departure of your choice.
The car and spare clothes await you at the end of your activity.

Departure of the shuttles* from 11/05 to 08/09:

The train to Houyet leaves

  • From Monday to Friday at 08:30 - 09:30 - 10:30 - 11:30 - 12:30 (booking required)
  • On Saturday and Sunday at 08:55 - 09:55 - 10:21 - 11:07 - 11:57 – 12:20 (booking required)
    During the weekends, there are some busses to complete the schedule.

The train to Gendron leaves

  • From Monday to Friday at 08:30 - 09:30 - 10:30 - 11:30 - 12:30 - 13:30 - 14:30 (booking required)
  • On Saturday and Sunday at 08:55 - 09:55 - 10:21 :11:07 - 11:57 - 12:20 - 13:05 – 14:15 (booking required)
    During the weekends, there are some busses to complete the schedule.

Departure of the shuttles from 09/09 to 27/10*:

  • The train to Houyet leaves at 10:30
  • The train to Gendron leaves at 10:30 - (11:30**) - 12:30

You are awaited at least 30 minutes before the shuttle of your choice.

Make sure to return the kayaks before 18:00 or risk an administrative fine (see kayak regulations)

(*) SNCB/NMBS trains () - Dinant Evasion can't be held responsible in case of delay or cancellation of the service.
(**) Only from monday to friday.

 

Arrival by coach :

Your coach or bus takes you to the departure point of your choice and then waits for you at the arrival.

Your bags and spare clothes stay in the bus and will thus be at your disposal less than 100 m from the finish, as are the showers and changing rooms.

Meet up at the boarding point:

  • Between 9.30 am and 12.00 in Houyet (21km trip)
    Address : Gare de Houyet, rue de la station - 5560 Houyet

  • Between 9.30 am and 2.00 p.m. in Gendron (12km trip)
    Address : Gare de Gendron-Celles, 5561 Gendron

Make sure to return the kayaks before 5.00 pm (6.00 pm from 15/06 to 15/09) or risk an administrative fine (see kayak regulations)

Arrival by train

The stations of Houyet, Gendron and Anseremme are all situated at less than 150m from our offices.

You are expected

  • In Houyet (boarding point for the 21km trip/5 hours) before 11:00 till 09/10/2018

  • In Gendron (boarding point for the 12km trip/2h30) before 12:00 till 28/10

To keep your personal belongings dry and have some more space in the kayak, it is possible to hand over one bag per person to our staff, who will bring it to you at the finish.

No money nor valuable or fragile objects! All the bags are stacked together and are without surveillance. Inc. Dinant Evasion can't be held responsible if any problem occur.

Warm showers and changing rooms are free and immediately accessible at the arrival point of the kayaks. The station of Anseremme is also close by.

Picnic and catering halfway down the river Lesse

During the descent, various places with possibilities to stop near cafeterias are provided:

You can also bring your own picnic and eat it on one of the authorized mooring areas along the circuit.

Each kayak is equipped with a container with li in which you can put your sandwiches and drinks before your break and your waste afterwards. Don't leave any trash behind, at the risk of being fined (see kayak regulations).

Portable barbecues, bottles of alcohol, packs and crates of beer are prohibited on the kayaks.

Minimum age

Kayaking on the Lesse is an activity that is normally accessible to children from 5 years old accompanied by an adult. At 12 years old, they may be alone in a single-seater kayak.

Life jackets are free for all and available in all sizes, on request.

They are obligatory for children under 10.

Depending on the weather conditions and the water level of the river, these restrictions can be temporarily adapted.

Disabled

Activities are difficult to access for people with a strong disability.

 

Rain, dryness and water levels

The kayak activity depends on the weather conditions.

  • In case of heavy rains, the water level can vary significantly from one day to another, forcing us to close the activity for safety reasons.

  • In case of drought, the Walloon Government can forbid the kayaking on the river for environmental protection reasons.

In both cases, we try to inform our customers as soon as possible (posting the information on our Facebook page Dinant Evasion and Descent of the Lesse, e-mails to those who registered).

Useful tips :

  • Suitable outfit: choose an outfit in accordance with the Belgian weather of the day (sunscreen or coat). Purchase caps, t-shirts and rain jackets at our offices.

  • Wearing shoes during the entire trip is highly recommended.

  • Don't take anything of value, nor keys, nor cell phone, which you may lose in the river or which may suffer water damage. Inc. Dinant Evasion can't be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged objects.
  • Kayaking down the Lesse is achievable for beginners. However, the river stays natural. Be vigilant and behave in a responsible way.

  • Don't forget anything on your way down nor in the changing rooms.

  • Leave a maximum of responsible or experienced adults at the end of the group to help the youngsters.

  • Be careful, evaluate your physical condition correctly. Consult a doctor if you suffer any medical constraint. The kayak activity is not recommended for pregnant women.

  • Reinforced security: numbered boundary stones are placed every 300m to locate yourself in case of trouble. Also, find a map of the Lesse on the lid of your watertight container.
